A Fashion Story

Rebecca Taylor invites us home for the Holidays

For New Zealand born, New York-based fashion designer, Rebecca Taylor, there’s nothing like being home for the holidays.

“Every Christmas Eve we sit on the couch watching the fire and I read The Night Before Christmas to my three children,” Taylor said of the tradition she started with her daughters, 5 year old twins, Isabel and Zoe and her 3 year old son, Charlie. “They love that book and it’s fun creating these lasting memories and traditions.”

Taylor and her husband, illustrator Wayne Pate, have made it a tradition of their own to deck the halls of their spacious, four-story Park Slope, Brooklyn-based townhouse they purchased in 2006. They moved in just days before the arrival of their twins.

Coming home for the holidays: Rebecca and her husband start decking the halls of their Brooklyn townhouse. Here, Rebecca wears a Fur Collar Coat of her own design.

The impeccably renovated, sunny grey and white kitchen is where Taylor, who admittedly rarely cooks, bakes a Pavlova every Christmas.

“It’s a traditional New Zealand dessert,” she explained. “It’s special to me because growing up my mum would make it for the holidays and I distinctively remember how excited my siblings and I were when we would see her preparing it. It’s become a bit of a family tradition.”

A family affair: Rebecca’s twin daughters Zoe and Isabel make Pavlova. The tutu-bedecked girls fell in love with the gifts from the Saks team — a pair of snowy white Yetis! Here, Rebecca wears the Marled Cashmere Pullover

Besides spending her time with family, Taylor said she plans to attend a bunch of holiday parties.

“It’s the time of year you can really have fun with color and embellishments,” she said of her own holiday wardrobe. “I love wearing a bit sparkle during the holidays, it feels just right.”

And how does she keep her cool and get too stressed out?

“Lots of mimosas!”

Elegance meets approachable: Rebecca’s Pleated Gown is charming by the fireside.
