Once again re-imagining American classics, Ralph Lauren offered three distinct, but very Ralph stories for his Polo line. His posh preps got an injection of high-impact brights, colors that toed the line of neon intensity. Next, a grouping of fringe embellished separates created the effect of chic cowgirls heading to a cocktail party on a gentleman’s ranch, while a final tableaux of girls in designer denim welcomed you to snap photos of their hardware accented jumpsuits.

The Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic event at Liberty State Park is the best of many worlds – great fashion, delicious champagne, sports, an Instagram-ready setting and fun in the sun. Really, it has it all.
But if you plan on being a spectator at the event of the summer, you better bring your style chops to the field. It all boils down to comfort – when you’re at ease, you look good. Fall has hit New York City, which means that you can finally reach into your tucked away cedar chest filled with all your favorite autumn coats and sweaters and start flexing some layering muscle. This past spring, Ralph Lauren staged his Children’s Fall 2014 collection on a very apropos runway – at the New York Public Library. The presentation correlated beautifully with Ralph Lauren’s philanthropic initiatives through its own Children’s Literacy Program, which worked in partnership with the Reach Out & Read non-profit organization for the event. Reach Out & Read is an organization comprised of doctors and nurses who promote early literacy by providing children with new books in their pediatric examination rooms. It is now in its 25th year. The Ralph Lauren Children’s fashion show was hosted by Uma Thurman, featured 55 models, sporting great back-to-school looks for both boys and girls and featured a live performance by the cast of Broadway’s Matilda the Musical, based on Roald Dahl’s children’s classic novel.
Unlike most fashion shows, one doesn’t have to wait half a year to get their hands on these great kids’ pieces. They’re available right now at Saks Fifth Avenue retail stores and on Saks.com. Check out some of the key looks below and make sure to check out the small clip from behind the scenes of Ralph Lauren Children’s Fall 2014 fashion show.
Ralph Lauren Children’s Fall 2014 Key Looks for Your Back-to-School Youngsters
When it comes to Argentine polo player Nacho Figueras, a portrait really is worth a thousand words. There’s a reason why photographer Bruce Weber, whom he met at a Hamptons dinner party 12 years ago, introduced him to Ralph Lauren. And a reason why Lauren went on to name him the face of both Black Label and World of Polo Fragrances. And have we mentioned that Vanity Fair readers voted him the second most handsome man in the world in 2009 — a notch above Brad Pitt? Of course, you can judge for yourself when he makes an appearance at Saks today to celebrate the opening of our new Ralph Lauren Black Label shop.
There’s more to Figueras than his beautifully chiseled cheekbones, though. Growing up outside of Buenos Aires, he got into polo at age nine, turned pro at 17 and is now arguably the most famous face behind the sport, with even a guest stint on Oprah under his belt. Here, the polo sensation talks style, suiting and his relationship with — guess who? — Lauren.
On his fashion inspiration… Ralph has always been an inspiration. I like old-school pictures, too.
On his style… Classic.
On his earliest suit memory… 14, cousin’s wedding.
When buying a suit, always remember to… Have a tailor fit it. Makes a big difference.
On his go-to look when… Dressing up: Suit and silk knit tie. Dressing down: Jeans, T-shirt and Alpargatas shoes.
On Ralph Lauren… Ralph is a man who inspires me very much and working with him for 12 years has been a real honor and privilege.
On what he’s thinking about when being photographed… My next polo match.
On current guilty pleasures… Horses, I have too many horses.
On his alternate career, if not a polo player… Architect. I really like design.
A man looks best when… He feels comfortable. Attitude is everything.
And a woman looks best when… She is not trying too hard.
Espadrilles, now a mainstay on the runways, were first worn to battle by the foot soldiers in the Kingdom of Aragon in the 13th century. Today, the rope-soled shoes are a must have, not for warriors, but for weekends and designers from Ralph Lauren to Salvatore Ferragamo have made the shoe a summer staple.
“Espadrilles are the shoes of summer,” says Eric Jennings Saks men’s fashion director. “They’re perfect for trekking to the beach or enjoying sunset cocktails. Most likely you’ve seen canvas espadrilles but these by Ralph Lauren have an orange suede upper, which dresses them up a notch and gives them a pop of summer color.”
Salvatore Ferragamo’s Burt Strap Espadrille is a hybrid of the original silhouette combined with a leather sandal strap back for greater breathability. Ferragamo sent them down the runway with everything from summer suits to casual weekend wear.
