Saturday Night Live is turning 40 this year and to help celebrate such a momentous occasion, they’ve teamed up with Saks Fifth Avenue for the 16th annual Key To The Cure campaign and its exclusive collection, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund. As of last year, Key To The Cure has helped to raise over $35 million towards the cause.

The collection will unfold on October 1 with a unisex tee designed by David Neville and Marcus Wainwright of Rag & Bone, followed by our charity shopping weekend taking place October 16 to 19. “We are very proud to partner with Saks for Key To The Cure and lend our support to such an important cause,” said Rag & Bone designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville. “EIF’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund is incredible. To play even the smallest of roles to raise money on their behalf is an honor.”

To mark the special occasion, some fan favorite SNL cast-members, namely, Will Ferrell, Ana Gasteyer, Vanessa Bayer, Cecily Strong and Colin Jost will sport the stylish tee in a national public service announcement that is set to appear in major fashion and lifestyle magazines in September and October.

“Key To The Cure has been a philanthropic focus for Saks Fifth Avenue for many years, and I am thrilled to continue this collaboration with the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund,” says Marigay McKee, President, Saks Fifth Avenue. “I’m proud of the contributions that Marcus & David of Rag & Bone, Saturday Night Live and our designer partners have brought to this year’s campaign and look forward to raising awareness for such an important cause.”

Turning 40 is a real milestone. Especially when you’re celebrating 40 years on television, so it’s a true testament to the power and importance of the cause that Saturday Night Live has chosen to highlight their anniversary by partnering up with Saks Fifth Avenue in order to give something back.

“We’re proud to have Will, Ana, Cecily, Vanessa and Colin serve as the faces of Key To The Cure in support of this deserving cause,” said Lorne Michaels, Creator & Executive Producer for Saturday Night Live.

Expect a couple of more surprise designs to follow after Rag & Bone’s unisex tee hits the racks at Saks Fifth Avenue nation-wide, Off 5th, as well as saks.com. Six other New York fashion giants have also signed on to deliver some SNL-inspired goods for Saks shoppers. Stay tuned for some great reveals as we approach the October 1 launch date.

Carolina Herrera Presents Her Fall 2013 Runway Collection with Saks Chicago

It might be called the Windy City, but ever the refined lady, Carolina Herrera had nary a hair out of place when she came to Chicago with Saks Fifth Avenue late last month. Herrera came to Chicago to present her eponymous fall 2013 collection in a runway presentation hosted by Trish Rooney Alden, Kay Krehnbiel, Jill Rasmussen and Kara Wright. Proceeds from the ticketed event benefited A Better Chicago, a venture philanthropy fund for the Chicago metropolitan area, which supports organizations that provide tools to underprivileged individuals to enter the workforce with an education and credentials. Proceeds from the ticketed event benefited A Better Chicago, a venture philanthropy fund for the Chicago metropolitan area, which supports organizations that provide tools to underprivileged individuals to enter the workforce with an education and credentials.

Held at Terzo Piano at the Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago, Herrera trotted about glamorous looks ranging from an astrakhan skirt with a fur-trimmed mink jacket evoking a modern day Katherine Hepburn, a trumpet skirted evening gown in color-blocked plum and crimson and the finale gown, an extraordinary long sleeved emerald evening gown in silk sating with a fur-trimmed plunging back.

“This collection has great drama and emotion,” noted Herrera in the show notes for this collection.

“We were delighted to present Carolina Herrera’s Fall 2013 runway collection, with a nod to 1940′s glamour, to our lovely ladies in Chicago,” said Saks Senior Fashion Director, Colleen Sherin. “ Mrs. Herrera never fails to present an ultra-chic collection with a high wearability factor for women of any age.”

After the show, Saks President Ron Frasch feted Herrera to a glamorous seated dinner, where they nibbled on Filet Mignon with a Roquefort crust and closed the evening with a sweet note with a lemon soufflé tarts.

Shansby.  Fittingly, Posen’s latest collection was inspired by a woman’s travels from East to West, as the designer himself crossed the country for the event.

First shown during New York Fashion Week in a salon-style setting at The Plaza Hotel’s Terrace Room Posen’s fall collection conjures the old world grandeur of the 1940’s. The clothes themselves are both architectural and elegant, from the show stopping strapless lavender hourglass gown with fluted ruffled hem to a drape-neck wine gown with affixed cape.

Of the event, Posen told WWD: “It was more women dressed in my clothes than I’ve ever seen in one room [as I helped guests] in and out of dressing rooms helping women get ready for gala season.”

Saks’ Senior Fashion Director Colleen Sherin notes: “We were thrilled to bring a bit of New York fashion week magic to San Francisco, with the ever-charming Zac Posen presenting his Fall 2013 runway collection, brimming with red carpet-ready looks.

It’s A Formal Affair

It was Sly and the Family Stone who sang, “you’re still checking each other out” and nowhere is that more true than during black tie events. Whether you’re heading to a wedding or the baccarat table, you might as well make sure that you get your formal look right, especially if you’re going to invest all of that effort. Let’s discuss the accoutrements that will help you stand out from the sea of similarity that frequently plagues these events. Adding one of these formal accessories hand picked by our VP and Men’s Fashion Director, Eric Jennings, will ensure your look is more James Bond rather than Rick James. And while you’re not gunning for any best-dressed lists, it’s still nice to be recognized.  As Sly…

SaksPOV: It’s 830 am, and you seem fairly chipper…
Tabitha Simmons: I wake up every day at 6am to get my kids ready for school, so this isn’t early for me at all!

SaksPOV: And it finally feels like springtime in New York. What is your favorite part of spring?
T.S.: The warm weather, absolutely!

SaksPOV: What will you be wearing this spring? Do you have any favorite styles from your collection in mind?
T.S.: I’m just so excited to be able to wear lighter shoes. I’ve been in boots and ankle boots for so long now. I’m going to wear these striped oxfords a lot!

SaksPOV: What is it like when you meet with customers?
T.S.:  It’s the greatest thing, honestly. I used to work at a shoe store — it was my first Saturday job. I love seeing what people like.

SaksPOV: What do you think when you see someone wearing your shoes?
T.S.: I still get excited! When I see someone wearing my shoes on the street, I accost them and say, “I made those shoes!”

A Stella Performance!

Stella McCartney stopped by Saks in Boca Raton for some styling and do-gooding

We are honored that the positively fabulous Stella McCartney swung by our Boca Raton store earlier this month to celebrate the opening of her new shop. The in-store event, following a private dinner with top clients, benefited the Florence Fuller Child Development Centers.

Musical chairs, anyone?

Shoe Party!

Hello, Nicole Cohen of Sketch42 here! I write a blog that celebrates design, art, fashion and the wonderful world in which they sometimes collide. Sketch42 is about finding daily inspiration and turning the mundane into an artful experience. The wonderful thing about the state of the modern department store is that they already have turned the mundane into something fabulous. Imagine 50 years ago, telling a woman that shoes would be fetishized to such a degree, that a single pair could cost thousands and that Saks Fifth Avenue would have just expanded their already so-gigantic-it needs-it’s-own-zip-code shoe floor to take up the entire floor! It’s like the shoe floor has manifest destiny — Wall-to-wall, baby! Of course, with my new burgeoning interest in photography, I was extremely…

It’s like the shoe floor has manifest destiny — Wall-to-wall, baby!

Of course, with my new burgeoning interest in photography, I was extremely excited to photograph a party, hosted by Vogue and Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann — who looked stunning in Prabal Gurung.

Party goers sipped champagne, modeled and bought some of the season’s coolest styles (I’m looking at you, 3.1 Phillip Lim booties) and were generally fabulous. As usual, I couldn’t keep my eyes off of the modern furniture collection — artfully places about the floor.

All in all, it was a fun, lighthearted evening, as all fashion events should be (!). Thanks for having me!

Stacks of Vogues lay on sculptural tables, as shoppers browse.

A modern fixture that I simply adore, the crowd.

A Giuseppe Zanotti heel should be mounted and displayed as art.

Photographer Billy Farrell mugs for the camera with some statement limited edition Louboutins. His face says: Would you wear these?

Vintage Moschino was a surprise theme among shoppers!

Cheers to 5 wonderful years of 10022-shoe!
