Curated By Colleen: The St. Louis Fashion Fund

Colleen Sherin, Saks' Fashion Director, was on hand at the fund acting as a judge for the Emerging Designer Award. See who walked out the lucky winner.

A Look From Daniella Kallmeyer’s Collection

New York. London. Milan. Paris. All fashion capitals of the world. Yet, that’s not to say that there isn’t a great amount of fashion being made in the outskirts of the well-known fashion meccas. One place you may not have given much thought to, though one should, is the American Midwest. Look at Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters of Creatures of the Wind, for example. These guys are Midwestern designers producing some of the most exciting fashion coming out of the states.

Which is what makes the new St. Louis Fashion Fund’s Emerging Designer Award such a great necessity. I was asked by Fern Mallis, the founder of New York Fashion Week, to be part of the judging panel for this new award, which gives emerging design talent a $15,000 stipend to infuse into their brand. I was joined on the judges’ panel by Refinery29‘s Editor-in-Chief Christene Barberich, designer Tess Giberson and fashion financier Gary Wassner, among others.

Taking a Peek at Remi Canarie’s Look-Book

There was a great talent here from many of the designers who presented their collections, but in the end, we had to go with one winner and we chose Daniella Kallmeyer. If you don’t know her work just yet, we’re hoping this win will bring her some new, well-deserved fans.

Fern Mallis Presents Daniella Kallmeyer With Her Big Award

There were a few big names you definitely have heard of in attendance as well. Timo Weiland, Tess Giberson – a fellow judge, and Yigal Azrouel all showed their Spring 2015 collections and had a quick pop-up store at the Saks St. Louis store where you could purchase the looks months ahead of hitting the racks.

Caught in a Moment: Timo Weiland Congratulates Daniella Kallmeyer

It was a great treat to be included in this great event. Seeing new, fresh design talent is a personal joy and it was wonderful to have discovered names that I’m sure we’ll all be hearing more about in the future.

Saks and SNL Fête Key to the Cure at Gramercy Park Hotel

See who stopped by to celebrate the coming-together of these New York institutions.

The saying “laughter is the best medicine” hasn’t felt so true to the Saks Fifth Avenue family as it has this year when we teamed up with our Rockefeller Center neighbors Saturday Night Live for 2014′s Key to the Cure initiative. They’ve proven to be stellar partners, with some of the cast, new and old, appearing in the campaign sporting Rag & Bone’s KTTC tee.

This year, we went one step further and asked the show’s Costume Designer, Tom Broecker, to team up with New York’s best designers to recreate some of the show’s fan favorite character’s outfits for our racks. It all culminated in the party of the season in New York’s Gramercy Park Hotel.  See who stopped by to celebrate the occasion.

“It’s really amazing to be a part of the campaign and its really a cool thing that they included us,” said Vanessa Bayer of SNL. “In ten years for our 50th anniversary I would love to see a nice well tailored Bar Mitzvah suit inspired by my Jacob the Bar Mitzvah boy character, topped off with a cool Rag & Bone yarmulke.”
