Like many modern day working girls teetering around Manhattan armed with an “it” bag and a cup of ambition, I simply can’t make it from day to night in mile-high stilettos. As a native New Yorker (and commuter from Brooklyn) a pair of vertiginous 110mm sling backs — however lovely and fashion forward — are simply not conducive to catching taxis, or navigating the cobble-stoned Meatpacking District (nor are they ideal for riding escalators at Saks).
And so, I’m constantly faced with what I call, the City Challenge of comfort vs. fashion.
Knowing I’m not alone in this fashion conundrum, SaksPOV challenged me to find my very own The Perfect In-Betweens at 10022-SHOE: five perfect shoes that can take you from office to dinner and withstand not having a seat on the orange subway line all the way home.
Standing at 2 3/4 inches, these heels are sturdy and I was ready to run a marathon in these.
These take me from 5’4 to, well, 5’4 and change, but surely increase my fashion quotient by 30,000 feet.
Three inches and yet still commuter friendly, these work really well with minis or skinnies.
When warmer weather rolls in, these will be my new best friends.
Leave it to Dolce & Gabanna to create the highest shoe on this list, but it’s clear that Domenico Dolce and Stefani Gabbana like their ladies to feel tall and confident. Case in point: these 4-inch wedge but with a 1 3/4 inch covered platform, when worn it compares to a 2 1/4 inch heel (cheat, cheat!).
