Saturday Night Live is turning 40 this year and to help celebrate such a momentous occasion, they’ve teamed up with Saks Fifth Avenue for the 16th annual Key To The Cure campaign and its exclusive collection, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund. As of last year, Key To The Cure has helped to raise over $35 million towards the cause.

The collection will unfold on October 1 with a unisex tee designed by David Neville and Marcus Wainwright of Rag & Bone, followed by our charity shopping weekend taking place October 16 to 19. “We are very proud to partner with Saks for Key To The Cure and lend our support to such an important cause,” said Rag & Bone designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville. “EIF’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund is incredible. To play even the smallest of roles to raise money on their behalf is an honor.”

To mark the special occasion, some fan favorite SNL cast-members, namely, Will Ferrell, Ana Gasteyer, Vanessa Bayer, Cecily Strong and Colin Jost will sport the stylish tee in a national public service announcement that is set to appear in major fashion and lifestyle magazines in September and October.

“Key To The Cure has been a philanthropic focus for Saks Fifth Avenue for many years, and I am thrilled to continue this collaboration with the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund,” says Marigay McKee, President, Saks Fifth Avenue. “I’m proud of the contributions that Marcus & David of Rag & Bone, Saturday Night Live and our designer partners have brought to this year’s campaign and look forward to raising awareness for such an important cause.”

Turning 40 is a real milestone. Especially when you’re celebrating 40 years on television, so it’s a true testament to the power and importance of the cause that Saturday Night Live has chosen to highlight their anniversary by partnering up with Saks Fifth Avenue in order to give something back.

“We’re proud to have Will, Ana, Cecily, Vanessa and Colin serve as the faces of Key To The Cure in support of this deserving cause,” said Lorne Michaels, Creator & Executive Producer for Saturday Night Live.

Expect a couple of more surprise designs to follow after Rag & Bone’s unisex tee hits the racks at Saks Fifth Avenue nation-wide, Off 5th, as well as saks.com. Six other New York fashion giants have also signed on to deliver some SNL-inspired goods for Saks shoppers. Stay tuned for some great reveals as we approach the October 1 launch date.

Joseph Altuzarra Designer Interview on SaksPOV blog on winning CFDA womenswear designer of the year 2014

Joseph Altuzarra’s rise to the fashion forefront hasn’t just been fast – it’s been meteoritic. In just three short years he’s racked up a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award, followed the next year by the CFDA Swarovski Award for Womenswear and this year, American fashion’s equivalent to a Best Picture Oscar – the CFDA award for Womenswear Designer of Year. Did we mention he just hit 30 in 2013?

Needless to say, the attention is warranted. There is, after all, a pedigree there. His first taste for the business came in the guise of an internship at Marc Jacobs immediately after graduating from Swarthmore College. A short stint as a freelance designer at Proenza Schouler followed, where he also picked up some back-end business smarts, and finally, as the right-hand man to Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy in Paris the year after. One does not make those kinds of professional pit-stops without picking up a thing or two along the way.

Heritage is another particularly important factor for zeroing in on the paradigm of the Altuzarra aesthetic. Half Chinese-American, half French-Basque – the DNA is in the clothes too. That enticing mix of American sportswear and Parisian come-hitherness are proving to be the building blocks of a household name.

But it’s not just a matter of pairing a nice cashmere sweater with a thigh-high slit skirt. “You have to be willing to put in the work,” says Altuzarra, concerning the work ethic and dedication to craftsmanship that’s essential to making it all come together. “I launched the brand in 2008 amidst the market crash, when the appetite for luxury goods as well as emerging brands was not the strongest. In that respect, working hard and being dedicated to making quality product has been top of mind since the inception of the company. Artisanal detailing has been an inherent component of the brand, and I think that goes hand in hand with a dedication to craftsmanship.”

When you’re as young as Altuzarra, building an eponymous luxury brand in this day and age requires a deep focus. You have to hone in on your eventual legacy almost straight away. So what does he want the Altuzarra woman to take away from his artistic contribution to fashion? The answer: consistency. “As we continue to grow the Altuzarra brand and business, I want to be consistent in establishing and refining its signature style; it merges authentic French seduction with American pragmatism and ease, as well as sexy sophistication and artisanal detailing. We want to make women feel seductive, sexy and strong.”

Check out some of the “sexy and strong” selections we here at Saks have picked out for you from Altuzarra’s award winning pre-fall and fall 2014 collections.

This Just In: Stella McCartney Fall Denim Has Arrived

Denimology: Stella McCartney Fall '14.

“Blue jeans are the most beautiful thing since the gondola.” That was Diana Vreeland, the legendary editrix of American Vogue in the 60s and early 70s, waxing lyrical over one of fashion’s greatest undying classics.

But what would Ms. Vreeland say if she were around today to look at Stella McCartney’s new denim arrivals for fall 2014? More beautiful than two gondolas, we suspect; that’s because this season McCartney pulled out all the stops, delivering the perfect pair of denim jeans in six different varieties: distressed, cropped, flared, coated, color/prints and skinny jeans. “Denim is a part of everyone’s everyday life,” says the London-based designer. “A timeless classic with a million different possibilities to inject freshness and attitude.”

Make sure to check out all the hot new fall denim styles below and get ready to say bye-bye to your old favorite pair of jeans.

Bespoken Word: A Look Inside Pitti Uomo 86

The trends of tomorrow at Pitti Uomo.

Bespoken-Word-SaksPOV-mens-blog-A-Look-Inside-Pitti-Uomo-86

Pitti Uomo, the lively sartorial event that kicks off Fashion Week in Italy, is celebrating the Firenze Hometown of Fashion’s 60th year anniversary this season. And considering the massive (and dashing) turnout, one could say that celebrating 60 never looked better.

Imagine. 1,100 vendors, 21,000 buyers (from over 120 countries) and nearly 30,000 visitors, all convening in Florence, Italy with one common goal: to find the most fashionable brands and items in menswear – and those are just last season’s numbers. While impressive, those figures pale to the hordes at Pitti Uomo this year, headlined this time around by the retooled Z Zegna. This season marks the 60th year anniversary of the Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana (Firenze Hometown of Fashion) and Pitti Uomo helped to celebrate the special occasion in great style. From the opening concert by master tenor Andrea Bocelli, followed by an amazing aquatic show by Ilotopie on the iconic Ponte Vecchio bridge, to a Vogue Italia produced “Florence and Fashion” photographY exhibition dedicated to five Florentine fashion houses – Roberto Cavalli, Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci, Emilio Pucci and Ermanno Scervino.

Saks Men at Work: Eric Jennings (left), VP, Men’s Fashion Director, and Tom Ott, SVP, Menswear General Merchandise Manager, get to the business of accessorizing.

While there were many new events happening at and around Pitti Uomo this season, one thing remained constant – Pitti always play stage to the trends of tomorrow and shows the rest of the world exactly how to wear them today. It’s not only a place to come and see product, but as all the major street-style blogs show, its where you come to see clothes worn by ‘real’ men. It’s also where you go to get a real taste for what the future of men’s fashion looks like. It’s not only about color combinations, perfect fit and beautiful fabrics, it’s where tradition goes to get a modern twist.

Brunello-Cucinelli-at-pitti-uomo-86-bespoken-word-by-guerre-sakspov-blog

Speaking to some of the older attendees, it becomes clear that Pitti has come to embrace the changes in the vast style spectrum that is menswear today, from the classic to the newer and edgier. Brands such as Brunello Cucinelli and Sand are able to showcase their new collections, while managing to explain both production and heritage to buyers. Gems like Tateossian continue to shine and gain exposure with beautiful one-of-a-kind accessories. Pitti brings it all together. Sure, it’s about business, but it’s also a stylish man’s playground.

Luckily, this covet-worthy Elizabeth and James backpack won’t break the bank in quite the same way, but you’ll still hear plenty of ooo’s and aaah’s.

Get to Know Guerre:

On being a proponent of cool on the men’s fashion scene: “Let me start by saying that “cool” is subjective. My definition of cool is effortless style. Whether you like street, casual or are strictly a suit man, it’s about effortless style, and effortless style is about knowledge of self. So for me cool is about that place you get to in life, where you are at peace and confident with who you are…and still willing to continue evolving.”

On developing a personal style statement: “When it comes to style, it’s no different than life; the key is getting to know oneself. It’s about a cycle of stages during which you have opportunities to experiment with cut, fit and color. When that’s said and done, you get to play up your personality because your clothes are essentially a reflection of who you are, and therefore, it demonstrates what rings true for your lifestyle.”

Pitti-Uomo-2014-photo-by-Guerre-saks-mens-guest-editor-01Pronto: When fashion calls, men answer!

On the types of looks that captivate his eye: “I have one rule when it comes to selecting my own clothes and accessories: stay true to yourself. The same applies to people that I want to shoot. If there is no specific look that captivates my eye, I make up for it with attitude. I call it a ‘peaceful confidence’. Dressing up/ style is about enhancing the true you, not contriving yourself to a look that doesn’t fit in with your real essence.

Abla Fashion for Men – a Made to Measure Classic Suit

Spotted: Saks Made-to-Measure suits for men.

It was bound to be the event of the season. The Kimye wedding was, as expected, an extremely lavish event, chock full of A-listers dressed to the nines and paparazzo galore. There was Givenchy everywhere, Tom Ford suits and even a white Batman costume, courtesy of Jaden Smith.

But there was one attendee who took his sartorial wares to the ultra-classic bespoke level. Fonzworth Bentley, musician and former aficionado of Sean ‘Puffy’ Combs, arrived to the ceremony decked out in a two-button satin lapel tuxedo made from Carlo Barbera Super 150 wool, designed by Abla Fashion for Men, a revitalized golden oldie that got its start within the walls of Saks Fifth Avenue back in the 1960s. Thirty years later, the brand, heralded in its heyday across Europe, the Middle East and the US as the premier line of Neapolitan artisanal tailoring, is coming back to the forefront of menswear with a more refined makeover, while also going back to its roots.

Thirty years later, the brand, heralded in its heyday across Europe, the Middle East and the US as the premier line of Neapolitan artisanal tailoring, is coming back to the forefront of menswear with a more refined makeover, while also going back to its roots.

Nicola Blasi, founder of Abla Fashion for Men, was the son of the legendary tailor Angelo Blasi, famous throughout Europe as Italy’s answer to Saville Row. Having picked up the made-to-measure trade from dear old dad, in 1959 Nicola headed to the States, setting off to learn about this new pre-packaged trend that was sweeping the industry: ready-to-wear. Turns out Nicola sharpened his business acumen at none other than Saks Fifth Avenue. Wanting to keep that rich heritage alive, with an emphasis on the luxurious Made-to-Measure quotient, Saks teamed up with Kiton to bring Abra Fashion for Men back to the spotlight, with the help of its talented designer and developer, Antonio Paone.

“As a recent Made-to-Measure convert, it’s my current passion,” says Eric Jennings, our men’s VP, Fashion Director. “It’s the easiest way to shop for suits because your measurements are always on file and you’re guaranteed a perfect fit in around 6 weeks. So when that special occasion comes up, like a wedding or big job interview, you’re always going to stand out from the pack.”

A lot has happened in menswear since Abla was last on the scene. Dusting off the long dormant archives means honing in on a whole new desired clientele base. With Fonzworth Bentley debuting the collection at Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s wedding, Abla Fashion for Men is certain to take off with those customers who are young at heart and appreciate being noted for their particular sense of style. And yet, Abla is not merely getting a rebranding, it is being rebuilt from the ground up with the help of some of the world’s top tier tailors, using only the finest fabrics available.

Another Italian master making the most out of bespoke heritage is Gucci, with their cologne ‘Made to Measure’ – made especially for the kind of man who demands the very best in life.

Abla Fashion for Men is a global exclusive to Saks Fifth Ave and available in the US at our New York flagship and Chevy Chase, Maryland. For more details email service@s5a.com.

You’ll feel relaxed and you’ll still look like a member of the upper echelon.

Potel et Chabot | Bon Appétit Chic
One of the most fabulous traditions at the French Open comes courtesy of world renowned French caterers Potel et Chabot. Every year, these masters of haute cuisine play host to hundreds of businesses looking to put on prestigious PR networking events, characterized by a truly exemplary gastronomic experience. It’s become a French Open staple, with Potel et Chabot personally catering to tens of thousands of spectators each year. But this is not your run-of-the-mill box seats catering experience. We’re not talking Yankee Stadium. We’re talking Paris, France. If you find yourself lucky enough to snag a table, you’re going to want to make an unforgettable impression.

Roland Garros Stadium | The Look: Formal
During the French Open, tees and shorts, baseball caps and tennis shoes abound on the stands by the thousands. But none of that will make for a noteworthy entrance. If you’re more likely to be in the Anna Wintour and Salma Hayek section of the cheering crowd, and see no reason why you can’t bring a little glamour to the art of spectating, then consider bringing these beauties along for the finals.

1) Alexander McQueen Checker-Print Knit Dress
2) Balenciaga Red High Tech Cat’s Eye Sunglasses
3) Michael Kors Fold-Down Clutch
4) Miu Miu Nero Black Criss-Cross Suede Sandals

Bois de Boulogne | Make Art Out of the Everyday
With countless match-ups covering a two week period, one simply cannot stay cooped up in a stadium without taking time for a breather, especially when the Stade Roland Garros is nestled in one of Paris’ most glorified parks. With several lakes and botanical gardens, a zoo, an amusement park, and countless shops in its periphery, you’re going to need an ensemble that maximizes on ease, without skimping on the cool factor.

Tune in for the French Open finals, Saturday June 7 (women’s) & Sunday June 8 (men’s).
