Literally meaning “comma”, the Virgule gives pause with a curvy, comma-shaped heel modeled after Monsieur Vivier’s original 1963 design. Luckily, the new look has enough je ne sais quoi to turn even the most seasoned style doyenne’s head, as designer Bruno Frisoni found when he introduced it at a benefit luncheon at Saks New York this week.

How did the original Virgule heel come into play when you created this latest design?
Frisoni: The Virgule is iconic. It’s a design from Roger Vivier himself that we reimagined with a newer, elongated silhouette. I was interpreting and reinventing a favorite from our archives.

Vivier shoes have always been linked to fashion icons like Catherine Deneuve, Brigitte Bardot & Tilda Swinton. Does anyone come to mind when you think of the Virgule?
Frisoni: I don’t want to exclude anyone, so really, anyone with a sense of fun and cool can wear this shoe. It’s designed for anyone with the attitude to wear it!

Is there a fantasy Vivier shoe not yet designed?
Frisoni: Well, there are so many points of inspiration. Obviously, new and fresh is the ideal, so my style is always evolving…

Chapman: We met in the [school] canteen. Keren and I have the same aesthetic. We’ve always liked the same things and we work well together. We each have our own areas and it just fits.

You’re known for glamorous red carpet dresses. Can either of you remember the last time you wore sweatpants?
Chapman: We don’t really do sweatpants. [Pointing to Keren’s cropped floral-print pants] These would be our version of sweatpants. It’s casual trousers for us!

Then what’s your idea of everyday chic?
Both: Voyage!

Luckily for American fashion, Browne’s Spring 2014 collection is no exception. The reverie du jour: Elizabethan clowns. Saks customers were the first in America to see the spring collection in an exclusive spring trunk show on Thursday at our New York store. Browne: I always feel like the customer should dictate when and how something should be worn. My true customer is someone who has the confidence to wear what they want, when they want.

What are you excited for people to see up close?
Browne: There’s so much time spent in the pattern-making, quality and the details, I feel looking inside of the garment is just as important as seeing the outside.

If not in fashion, where else would you be?
Browne: I feel like my shows are really stories that I put in front of people—so maybe directing? Stanley Kubrick’s style really interests me. His perspective was so uniquely diverse.

Browne: …wear what they feel suits them best, as opposed to opening a magazine and wearing what they’re told to.

But it wasn’t always this glamorous: upon arriving in the US from Korea with few resources, Jin admits “I was faced with three options to make a living: dry cleaning, delis, or nails. Choi: Finishes are either shiny or matte. Nail art isn’t going anywhere, but stay away from childish designs…I like to keep my nail art simple, elegant and sophisticated.

Please name-drop: fave celebrity clients?
Choi: Julianne Moore is down-to-earth; Kerry Washington is a really fantastic person; Anne Hathaway and Michelle Williams are great…basically all the really nice people. That’s the most important thing.

Celebrating the launch of the final addition, Playing with the Devil to his Good and Evil collection, Kilian Hennessy stopped by our New York fragrance floor last week to sign perfume bottles and chat with customers. Your latest scent: Playing with the Devil.
Hennessy: People who play with the devil also play with temptation, which I like. There’s a wink in the name, so I needed to find the same wink within the scent itself.  The fragrance contrasts between a lively opening made with blood orange essence, white peach and lychee, and a much more devilish, woodsy dry down.

How do you balance modern tastes and old-world artistry?
Hennessy: I have very limited distribution—it really gives me a freedom that others don’t have. What’s important is that my scent expresses the emotion carried by the name. That’s the only thing that interests me.

You’re in New York now…how would you bottle its scent?
Hennessy: It’s funny because we’re actually opening our own retail shop in America and it will have one exclusive scent called Apple Brandy, which is an homage to my cognac heritage and a wink to New York.

Picture a room peppered with chiseled Nordic men donning skinny suits and sipping ”neat” Mackyra whiskey, and you’ve envisioned the J. Lindeberg man. Luckily, all were accounted last week as our New York store celebrated the Swedish label’s debut at Saks. Founded in 1996 as a stylish answer to stodgy golfwear, J. Lindeberg has undergone something of an overhaul at the hands of head designer Jessy Heuvelink. Saks Men’s Fashion Director Eric Jennings is totally on-board. “We had five J. So what exactly is that future? When prompted, Heuvelink makes a sweeping gesture toward his own ensemble: a rock-n-roll-meets-tailored look, complete with a fitted J. Lindeberg jacket, skinny jeans, spiked smoking slippers and wrist cuffs. In other words, rockstar charisma, with or without a golf club.

The future: “I want men to have fashion options, and I want our brand to reflect that; I see us evolving into more chic, streetwear-based designs – like what I am wearing (smiles).”

The difference: “Swedish style is very minimal and clean, but J. Lindeberg is different. We use technical fabrics, which represent our sportswear history, and I feel that our label can be worn by everyone and anyone.”

The style: “Swedish style has always had a very simple and chic philosophy, but recently, we’ve been well-received in the U.S. We’re very excited about that!”

Though the show’s name implies all that is risqué, Scandal heroine Olivia Pope is study in sophistication—and her style savvy has garnered as much attention as the show’s twisty plotlines. No surprise then, that Saks teamed up with the show’s cast, crew and a host of bold-faced names to celebrate the new season on Wednesday night in New York. Kerry Washington says that it’s not just about her character looking good. “Olivia literally and figuratively wears the pants, yet her clothes have a softness about them.” Scandal costume designer Lyn Paolo agrees. “I didn’t want another female victim character on TV. No surprise then, that Saks teamed up with the show’s cast, crew and a host of bold-faced names to celebrate the new season on Wednesday night in New York.

I wanted to dress a strong woman.”

As part of the Saks x Scandal celebration, Washington and Paolo collaborated on thewindows of our New York store. “We had a blast curating them,” says Washington. She was so enamored by the results that she dipped inside the windows to strike poses for fans during the party.

As Season 3 debuts, an expert source was willing to a reveal a style spoiler: “There will be a lot more gloves and a lot more capes,” says Paolo. It’s a fashion-forward development for the always-elegant Olivia, but forgive us for taking our own small bow: “It’s really hard to find clothes in L.A. that are appropriate for our show,” says Paolo, “so Saks is one of my go-to spots.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
