How do you decide on a new neighborhood and its corresponding scent?
Rahme: I only do neighborhoods I find interesting. If you really know the
spirit of the neighborhood and the people who live there, it’s easy to do.

What’s you favorite fragrance note?
Rahme: Now it’s patchouli—it’s very warm, very attractive—and there
are many ways to work with it. But for spring, it’s gardenia.

What’s your favorite Bond No. 9 perfume?
Rahme: Coney Island. I love margaritas, and the first thing you smell
is Mexican lime and a tequila note. This fragrance has a party spirit.

Tell us about Saks New York Oud.
Rahme: People love it—especially in the winter. New York winters
are rough, and this fragrance is like a big cashmere sweater

What’s next for Bond No. 9?
Rahme: We’re doing a big new spring scent—Hudson Yards.

Exclusively Jason Wu

The designer introduces his Saks-exclusive capsule collection at Saks New York.

It was a banner night at Saks New York on Thursday, when Jason Wu and Hal Rubenstein of InStyle magazine introduced the designer’s Saks-exclusive Resort 2014 capsule collection to a lucky few Wu obsessives. And what can Saks shoppers expect? An array of scooped-back/demure-front day-to-evening dresses, for starters. “We used the print from the main resort collection,” Wu told us. “And we always kept the Saks customer in mind.”

As always, the wunderkind designer furthers his classic-with-a-twist: Wu clearly believes in refinement and craftsmanship in a fashion world dominated by downtown-cool. “I strive for utter sophistication,” he told the crowd. “It’s something you always want to be.”Rubenstein agrees: “Fashion as of late has either been cerebral or street, so I got excited about Jason because he’s polished. He is an old soul in a very young body.”

Lauder: Candles are my go-to gifts—Jo Malone London and the AERIN collection are my favorites. Also, makeup bags. Women always want new ones!

What’s your easiest piece of style advice?
Lauder: Embrace what looks good on you. Just because something’s on-trend doesn’t mean you have to wear it. It’s really about reinforcing your natural beauty.

Literally meaning “comma”, the Virgule gives pause with a curvy, comma-shaped heel modeled after Monsieur Vivier’s original 1963 design. Luckily, the new look has enough je ne sais quoi to turn even the most seasoned style doyenne’s head, as designer Bruno Frisoni found when he introduced it at a benefit luncheon at Saks New York this week.

How did the original Virgule heel come into play when you created this latest design?
Frisoni: The Virgule is iconic. It’s a design from Roger Vivier himself that we reimagined with a newer, elongated silhouette. I was interpreting and reinventing a favorite from our archives.

Vivier shoes have always been linked to fashion icons like Catherine Deneuve, Brigitte Bardot & Tilda Swinton. Does anyone come to mind when you think of the Virgule?
Frisoni: I don’t want to exclude anyone, so really, anyone with a sense of fun and cool can wear this shoe. It’s designed for anyone with the attitude to wear it!

Is there a fantasy Vivier shoe not yet designed?
Frisoni: Well, there are so many points of inspiration. Obviously, new and fresh is the ideal, so my style is always evolving…

You’re known for glamorous red carpet dresses. Can either of you remember the last time you wore sweatpants?
Chapman: We don’t really do sweatpants. [Pointing to Keren’s cropped floral-print pants] These would be our version of sweatpants. It’s casual trousers for us!

Then what’s your idea of everyday chic?
Both: Voyage!

If not in fashion, where else would you be?
Browne: I feel like my shows are really stories that I put in front of people—so maybe directing? Stanley Kubrick’s style really interests me. His perspective was so uniquely diverse.

Please name-drop: fave celebrity clients?
Choi: Julianne Moore is down-to-earth; Kerry Washington is a really fantastic person; Anne Hathaway and Michelle Williams are great…basically all the really nice people. That’s the most important thing.

In between photos and autographs, we got the scoop on Hennessy’s new fragrance and learned that the devil truly is in the details.

Your latest scent: Playing with the Devil.
Hennessy: People who play with the devil also play with temptation, which I like. There’s a wink in the name, so I needed to find the same wink within the scent itself.  The fragrance contrasts between a lively opening made with blood orange essence, white peach and lychee, and a much more devilish, woodsy dry down.

How do you balance modern tastes and old-world artistry?
Hennessy: I have very limited distribution—it really gives me a freedom that others don’t have. What’s important is that my scent expresses the emotion carried by the name. That’s the only thing that interests me.

You’re in New York now…how would you bottle its scent?
Hennessy: It’s funny because we’re actually opening our own retail shop in America and it will have one exclusive scent called Apple Brandy, which is an homage to my cognac heritage and a wink to New York.
