It’s our birthday over here at 10022-SHOE Tumblr and we’re giving away a pair of shoes a day!

THIS CONTEST HAS ENDED. Please stay tuned for future promotions! It’s our birthday over here at 10022-SHOE Tumblr, Saks Fifth Avenue’s ode to shoes and shoe lovers across the world. We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our first birthday than by celebrating YOURS! We’ll be dedicating the next 12 days to the 12 signs of the Zodiac.  Each day, we’ll post a shoe that best captures that day’s sign and ask you to write the horoscope (that’s “shoe”roscope). And because a birthday isn’t a celebration unless presents are involved – we’ll give away a pair of shoes to that day’s most creative astrologer. So come on Cancers, Virgos, Geminis…get out your astrological charts and start looking at the stars… and remember to…

As you prep for Halloween, Jenn Falik finds makeup removers that get the job done

As a makeup fanatic, I find one of the most appealing things about Halloween to be that it gives me an excuse to dress up as someone with majorly dramatic makeup that I would likely never attempt to get away with in real life.  But once the night is over, I want to remove every last bit of it. Luckily, after eight years of donning excessive amounts of makeup for television appearances, I have extensive experience in the art of taking it all off. So, in case you are planning to pile on the makeup as part of your Halloween costume, I wanted share some of my favorite makeup removers: Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover: A true classic, this super light formula is…

So, in case you are planning to pile on the makeup as part of your Halloween costume, I wanted share some of my favorite makeup removers:

Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover: A true classic, this super light formula is especially great for getting rid of all traces of long-wear lipstick.  I also keep a cotton swab pre-soaked with this on hand whenever I attempt a red lip for a quick fix when I inevitably color outside the lines.

Estée Lauder Take It Away Towelettes: A good cleansing wipe is a lazy girl’s best friend — and if you anticipate a late night, put a pack of these on your nightstand so even if you get home way past your bedtime, you have no excuse not to settle into a makeup-free slumber. These are also hydrating, so if you can’t motivate to moisturize, no harm is done.

Dior Purifying Cleansing Milk: What I love about cleansing milks such as this one is that they turn the process of makeup removal into a pampering ritual.  Not heavy in the slightest, the silky formula feels amazing as you massage it into the skin. There is no need to endure a messy rinsing routine either — simply sweep a tissue across your face and enjoy the instant gratification that comes with looking down to see every trace of makeup that once held court on your complexion sitting in the palm of your hand.

Francisco Costa Stops by Saks Fifth Avenue to show Calvin Klein Collection's Resort Collection

Calvin Klein’s main man Francisco Costa stopped by our New York store on Thursday to host a fashion show for the brand’s Resort 2013 collection. The women’s creative director for Calvin Klein Collection, showed a colorful lineup with cut-out double-face shifts, sheer T-shirt dresses and sleeveless tunics in shades of chartreuse, moss and cobalt, inspired by the sensual vibe of Seventies California. Francisco shared his inspiration with SaksPOV: SaksPOV: What inspired this new collection? Francisco Costa:  There’s this iconic  image  of Lisa Taylor by Helmut Newton from 1970’s, where the model is gorgeous, very casual, so all of the prints and the styling came from this picture. SaksPOV: What inspired this new collection?
Francisco Costa:  There’s this iconic  image  of Lisa Taylor by Helmut Newton from 1970’s, where the model is gorgeous, very casual, so all of the prints and the styling came from this picture. During the height of the ‘70’s, women were really sexy, and that’s how I started it.

SaksPOV: How do the fabrics you used reflect back to the Seventies?
F.C.: We started by finding textures that reflected that time period. The collection needed to be urban and dark and textural, so it has an urban spirit to it with very cool, great shapes and amazing textures. Since I was on this California thing and saw the “Under the Big Black Sun”, an exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art there, it all felt very natural.

SaksPOV: We’re curious. What is inspiring you for next season?
F.C.: Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Dreamers…. The streets of New York are fantastic for inspiration, or every trip I take, or book I read. Some things just show up and they stay with you.

Pose partner Rachel Zoe, for instance, keeps tabs on pals like designer Jenni Kayne and WhoWhatWear’s Katherine Power. “It’s the perfect way to stay updated on their newest fashion obsessions,” Zoe tells SaksPOV. “I love that I can see (and shop!) my friends’ outfits! It’s a really great way to find new style inspiration, too.”

Here, more fashion intel from the stylist extraordinaire behind The Zoe Report. And don’t forget to check out her new fall collection in store and at Saks.com.

SaksPOV: What are five things every woman needs this fall?
Rachel Zoe: Leather pants — opt for a fitted legging or edgy flare. Tuxedo-inspired blazer — it’s perfect to wear to work or, dressed up over a flirty dress, for a night out. Something velvet — try my cropped Ian pant with a white tee and leather jacket. A cape — it’s a great staple for any wardrobe because you can throw it on over your wide-leg jeans or a minidress with tights. And a slouchy knit is a must — try an oversized cardigan or even an asymmetrical pullover.

SaksPOV: Which shoe will work best with the most outfits?
R.Z.: I love booties! They are a great option for pants and dresses. Go for a light neutral color and an extra high heel to elongate your legs.

SaksPOV: How do you shop vintage and make it look contemporary?
R.Z.: Mix high-end with contemporary and a little bit of vintage, with modern touches.

SaksPOV: What was your first designer purchase?
R.Z.: When I was on vacation with my family in Europe, I bought a Louis Vuitton bucket bag.

SaksPOV: How can someone pull off the quintessential Rachel Zoe look?
R.Z.: I’m not sure I have one quintessential look because my style really depends on my mood, occasion and the season. You will often catch me running around town in wide-leg denim, an LNA tee, one of my vintage Chanel blazers and round sunnies. Other times, I might opt for a maxi dress and some platform wedges — effortless glam.

Scouted at Saks: Hermes L’Ambre Des Merveilles

After a decade in the beauty industry, I am still completely wooed by certain words — and Hermès is one of them.  So before I even I smelled the new fall scent (or knew a single note), I wanted to own it. Then, I took a whiff.  Forgive my lack of fancy fragrance speak — but it is one of the sexiest scents I have ever had the pleasure of spritzing! Perhaps, because one can tell it isn’t trying to be sexy at all. It just is. Amber is joined by vanilla, labdanum and patchouli to create a sensual (a word I rarely use, but is really the only way to describe it) musk with a spicy kick. I picture an ultra-chic version of myself,…

I picture an ultra-chic version of myself, clad in Helmut Lang leggings, an Acne sweater and Givenchy knee high boots, wearing L’Ambre Des Merveilles- glamorous simply by the virtue of not trying to be.

Working backwards, now that I have the scent in my possession — somewhat mesmerized by the signature “wobbly-bottle”, glimmering with gold stars magnified through curved glass as I type — I am off to order the leggings. And the sweater.

Oh, the dangers of fragrance writing on the same computer where your credit card info has been typed often enough to auto-fill at Saks.com.

Carolina’s Crusade

Carolina Herrera Takes a Stand Against Women’s Cancers With Saks

Having been involved in the fight against breast cancer in Latin America, Carolina Herrera was a natural partner for Saks Fifth Avenue’s 2012 Key to the Cure campaign with the Entertainment Industry Foundation. She cares about creating greater awareness of breast cancer. So do we. Plus, we love her chic gowns and day looks! The collaboration was, as they say, a no-brainer. You’ll agree when you see the exclusive limited-edition T-shirt she created for us, which features a long-limbed tree bearing pink heart-shaped leaves. It’s a lot like Herrera herself — elegant and feminine yet confidently chic. Go ahead, take a close look at her illustration; those hearts come together to form a map of the world. “There is much symbolism in the design, but…

It’s a lot like Herrera herself — elegant and feminine yet confidently chic. Go ahead, take a close look at her illustration; those hearts come together to form a map of the world. “There is much symbolism in the design, but the message is clear,” says Herrera in an interview with SaksPOV. “We are all connected by this disease and no country or individual is immune.” The inspiration, she adds, “was to express hope and show this is a global cause touching and connecting hearts worldwide.”

All proceeds will benefit EIF’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund. Yes, you read that right — that’s 100% of each and every T-shirt sale. In addition, we’re holding a special charity shopping weekend (Oct. 18-21) where 2% of all sales will go toward local and national women’s cancer charities. Herrera herself will be swinging by our New York store on October 18 at noon to talk about the campaign, which also stars Penelope Cruz as model too. But first, the designer took some time out to speak with SaksPOV…

What does breast cancer awareness mean to you?
It is a global imperative. Campaigns like Key to the Cure can bring information to women in communities worldwide. Information about screening and prevention can aid in saving lives.

Women can make a difference by…
Helping people by giving time to the cause you believe in.

My personal motto in life is…
You can do anything with discipline and imagination.

Any style tips for your Key to the Cure T-shirt?
The T-shirt is fabulous and looks great many ways, but under a jacket or with a skirt or jeans is quite chic!

Baby, it’s Cold Outside!

Having lived in sunny California for eight years prior to moving East to settle into New York City living — well, let’s just say I was unprepared for winter weather dressing. The notion of large winter coats, loads of layering and accessorizing with oversized scarves, hats and gloves was all but lost on me. What I learned quickly, however, is that dressing for inches upon inches of snow and less than ideal temperatures is all about the accessories. It’s what makes Portolano’s innovative, yet stylish gloves and tech-savvy accessories like headphone earmuffs from Saks right up my alley. I love the details and the fact that the gloves feature a touch sensitive fiber that enables me to use my phone while keeping my hands warm…

It’s what makes Portolano’s innovative, yet stylish gloves and tech-savvy accessories like headphone earmuffs from Saks right up my alley. I love the details and the fact that the gloves feature a touch sensitive fiber that enables me to use my phone while keeping my hands warm (a welcomed addition to my wardrobe after seeing my iPhone tumble into the snow last year after slipping from my gloved-hands!)

As a Public Relations professional by day and a blogger by night, I’ve found that investing in key accessories essential in my dressing and this winter I’ll be relying on these pieces to get me from work to events seamlessly.

Optimal Outerwear

Menswear style maven — and Montreal native — Marcus Troy shows amps up the style factor in the season’s latest outerwear

Tastemaker, photographer and digital powerhouse Marcus Troy is the man behind The Marcus Troy Experience. Troy always looks dapper, whether he’s rocking denim or an elegant suit at New York Fashion Week. And we’re not the only ones that think his style is noteworthy. Earlier this year The New York Times listed Troy as one of the top-five in the next wave of menswear bloggers. It’s easy to see why brands like Nike, Levi’s and Bentley have been itching to collaborate with him. With his natural charm and signature smile, we figured Troy was the best man to sport the latest outerwear styles that have just landed at Saks Fifth Avenue. Haute & Cold

Style & Pepper’s Jessie Artigue keeps it feminine and fun when cozying up for the cold NYC winter!

I used to cringe at the thought of putting on a pea coat, and puffer jackets once seemed far from pretty.  Having spent most of my life in the sunny, arid climes of both Scottsdale and San Diego, my love affair with outerwear didn’t begin until December of 2007, after a move to the Midwest and one of the worst winters Kansas City, Missouri has ever seen.  The need to bulk up my winter wardrobe came as quickly as the first ice storm, and I was faced with the devastating option of either freezing my bum off on the way to the shops, or trying to stick out the season wearing my ski jacket (chic enough for the slopes, style-blasphemy on the street). Five years later, and I’ll be the first to admit my unapologetic obsession with cold-weather-wear, and the fact that I firmly believe a brisk wind can be used as the perfect accessory (hello, “nature’s wind machine”).  I now live for these crisp fall mornings when it finally seems like adding a layer (and eventually two or three) seems not only prudent, but a great opportunity to bring some much-needed interest to our quickly fading summer trends.

Seems like it’s about time to start exploring our options for the upcoming season, so I decided to pop into Saks to check out their always on-point selection. Naturally, we snapped a few fun photos for you in the process.  Whether you’re adding an anorak to your already-impressive collection, or in need of a new knit-cap for your first winter in NYC (go with Rag & Bone + Moncler, respectively)… Saks has my heart when it comes to a seriously stylish selection, and now this desert-girl is even more ready to be bundled up with the best of ‘em.
